Getting to Malaysia is easy
with over 40 airlines, including Malaysias own carrier, Malaysia
Airlines. All flights arrive and depart at the new state-of-the-art
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) / KUL located at Sepang, about
70 km or an hour's drive south of Kuala Lumpur, the countrys
capital.

From KLIA, visitors can take connecting flights to most major cities
and towns in Malaysia as well as to Sabah and Sarawak. The airport
is well equipped with the latest facilities and services to cater
passengers either arriving into the country or on a transit to other
destinations.
Malaysia has 5 international airports, 14 domestic airports and 18
airstrips. The international airports are at Sepang in
Selangor,
Penang Island, Langkawi Island,
Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, and
Kuching
in Sarawak.
KLIA - Kuala Lumpur International Airport
This super-modern airport to Kuala Lumpur is the first introduction to
visitors arriving to Malaysia. Major airlines from all over the
world fly to this new airport, some 80 km outside KL and takes about
1 hour drive from KL. There is not too much near it (rather rural)
So if you are there for just a few hours, you probably do not have
enough time to go anywhere. But it has all the conveniences of any
major airport - Lockers, shopping, internet access, etc.
Subang Airport
Subang Airport used to be Malaysias main international airport
until it was taken over by the ultra new Kula Lumpur International
airport which opened in 1998. Officially known as the Sultan Abdul
Aziz Shah Airport (named after the Sultan of the state of Selangor),
it is more commonly referred to as the Subang Airport. Located on
the outskirts, it is about 25 km from the KL city centre. Subang
airport has since been designated for general aviation and turboprop
aircraft.
Malaysia Airlines subsidiary "community airline" Firefly operates
from Subang. Firefly currently flies daily from Penang to five
domestic destinations (Kuala Lumpur via Subang, Kota Bharu, Kuala
Terengganu, Kuantan and Langkawi) and two regional destinations in
Thailand (Koh Samui and Phuket).
Berjaya Air also operates from here and flies daily to Tioman
Island, five times a week to Pangkor Island, and to Redang Island in
the east coast. It also has two flights weekly to/from Ko Samui in
Thailand.
Transmile Air Services, a national cargo carrier also operates from
here as well as several companies offering chartered flights and
helicopter service. There is a number of flying clubs located here
as well.
Airlines
The national carrier, Malaysia Airlines (MAS), currently flies to
more than a hundred destinations worldwide. Domestic
destinations are catered through its subsidiaries Firefly (Peninsula Malaysia)
and Mas Wings (East Malaysia)
Malaysia Airlines Website.
The other well known airline is Air Asia. The airline thrives on
no-frills flights to reduce cost which is passed on to passengers.
Free seating flights speed up processing time and flight
punctuality. Air Asia is a budget airline... It is to be noted that "budget"
price air-ticket is only available when you book 2 or 3 months in
advance. Being a budget airline, no in-flight service is provided but you may
purchase food and refreshments which are reasonably priced. The
only problem with Air Asia - brace yourself for flight delays. So if
you have a connecting flight to somewhere else, book a earlier
flight just in case they are delayed.
The airline flies not only domestic routes but also regional routes.
Check-in counters open 2 hours before flight and closes 45min prior
to departure time. One thing to watch out for is the 15 kg luggage
limitation and charges 5-7 RGT (USD 2) per kg over. So your luggage
could be more expensive then your person. If you do not need all
your baggage check with your hotel or lockers at the airport for
leaving it behind.
From K. Lumpur International Airport, its departure and arrival are
at the LCCT (Low Carrier Cost Terminal).

picked-up on arrival and return in time to check-in for your
