Putrajaya, is the new Administrative Centre of the Federal Government. It is a planned futuristic model city with lush greenery built with emphasis on design and architectural significance. Named after Malaysia�s first Prime Minister, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, this landmark complex stretches over 11,320 acres. More than 70% of Putrajaya is devoted to greenery and water bodies with 13 different gardens. The principle landscape is the 6oo-hectre man made lake.

Formerly known as Perang Besar, it is situated 25 km south of Kuala Lumpur, along the South Growth Corridor within the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC). The development of Putrajaya marks a new chapter in the history of modern city planning in Malaysia. It is set to be a model garden city with sophisticated information network base on multimedia technologies. Termed as Malaysia's first Intelligent Cyber Garden City.

Moving the national administrative machinery from Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya and leaving Kuala Lumpur as the country's financial and commercial capital, is in line with the Government's policy to provide a more balanced development and to ensure continued growth in the Klang Valley.


The Core Area establishes the overall identity of Putrajaya. It is the main part that provides Putrajaya its structure. The Core Area has a total area of 3,232.5 acres. Of this, about 82% is developable land. The rest being the lake. The Core Area of Putrajaya is divided into five precincts linked by a distinctive 4.2 km / 2.6 mile long boulevard. The precincts are identified by their predominant economic activities. While all precincts are equally important in the overall scheme of Putrajaya, the Government Precinct is spatially prominent, consistent with its role as the administration centre for the Federal Government. You can divide Putrajaya into two major areas: the Core Area and the Peripheral Area.
The Core Area covers 1069 hectares and is divided into five precincts, namely the Government Precinct, Commercial Precinct, Civic & Cultural Precinct, Mixed Development Precinct, and Sports & Recreational Precinct.

 Forming the spine of Putrajaya is a 4.2km boulevard that runs right through the middle linking the Core Area precincts. The Peripheral Area comprises residential areas of various sizes served with schools, hospitals, shopping centres, mosques, multipurpose halls, learning centres and neighbourhood parks.

At the North of the Core Area is the Government precinct located. Also the most of the Federal Government ministries, departments and agencies. The office of the Prime Minister�s complex "Perdana Putra" is situated at a vantage location, overlooking the Dataran Putra, which marks the beginning of the Putra Boulevard.

Of special interest to a visitor would be the architectural concepts of its buildings, designs of its square, boulevards and bridges, the scenic lake and the wetlands and nature parks.
