Botanical Gardens
This 30-hectare garden created in 1884 by the British, it was meant as a
tribute to Charles Curtis, its first superintendent who collected botanical
specimens from the surrounding hills - specimens which have since become
significant samples in the world's major herbariums. The Gardens, which also
features a waterfall, offers peace and tranquility amidst lush green
surroundings, tropical plants and the colours of Penangs flora

path around the lily pond offers access to tropical rainforest, only a
leisurely 10-minute stroll from the garden�s gate. The gardens are also
well-known for their bold Rhesus monkeys which roam in the gardens, but
feeding them is forbidden. Two orchid houses provide comparison between
cultivated hybrids
and wild orchid species.

Penang
Hill
Malaysia�s first hill station; Penang hill is 2730 feet above sea level.
Visitors can ascend to the top by either hiking up or by the funicular
railway, which has been operational since 1922. There is a good walking track
up the hill (recommended only for the more energetic), and this jungle trail
begins at the �Moongate�, at Jalan Air Turjun, approximately 300 yards from
the botanical garden entrance. The hill gives a panoramic view of the island
and bungalows and hotels provide overnight accommodation.

Forestry Museum
Located with 100-hectare forested recreational Park which features footpaths
and flowing streams and is home to countless species of flowering plants,
ferns, insects, birds, butterflies, snakes and lizards. The Museum itself
built using various species of wood and other forest produce and houses a
collection of forest produce from all over the country, has exhibits of many
species of tropical timber, timber products
and pests of timber.

Butterfly
Farm
The farm is home of three thousand living specimens and is home to 3,000
living specimens and of over 50 species of colourful butterflies, frogs,
scorpions, and other insects. It features a lily pond, artificial
waterfalls, a rock garden, tunnel and a bubbling mud pool. Also included
within the farm are a garden enclosure, breeding area, laboratory, exhibition
area, souvenir shops and information center.

Penang
Bird Park
The park spans 5 acres and houses a fine collection of some 800 birds from all
over the world. It is beautifully landscaped and features a walk-in aviary,
pond with ducks and swans, ornamental ponds abounding with water
lilies, Japanese carps and ornamental plants.

Tropical Fruit Farm
Spread over 25 acres of landscaped hills it offers over 200 varieties of
tropical and subtropical fruit trees. Have first hand experience of exotic
jungle fruits and also introduced fruits not locally seen. You can sip from
young coconuts and come fruit season there are durians, rambutans and
mangosteens to delight you.

Penang's
Famed Beaches
Penangs northern shoreline is famous for it�s beautiful beaches of golden
sands and deep blue seas. It is along this famous coastline that resorts of
international standard have sprouted up; this includes Tanjung Bungah, Batu
Ferringhi and Teluk Bahang. These beaches offer all of the pleasures of
aquatic sports such as parasailing, boating, surfing, catamarans and many
others. One can also swim to your hearts content, or merely revel in the sun.
If you crave for privacy head for Teluk Duyung, Monkey Beach, Pantai Keracut
or Pantai Mas which is accessible via the trails in the Pantai Acheh Forest
Reserve from Teluk Bahang. The Pasir Panjang Beach at the South Western tip of
the island is a good clean stretch for swimming and can be reached after a
25-minute hike over hilly land from Betong.
