The best way is to get to Kuala
Terengganu and connect to the place or location you intend to visit.

GETTING TO KUALA TERENGGANU
By Road
Driving travellers are advise to get a map from Tourism Malaysia or any
bookstore.
From Kuala Lumpur / Kuantan
Head east towards Kuantan. You will be driving on the Karak Highway
(Highway 2) and continue with ECE (East Coast Expressway) all through to
Kuantan, which takes approximately 3 - 3 hours. From Kuantan head
towards the Northeast, on highway 3 (the coastal road) or Highway 14,
which will lead you to Kuala Terengganu.
From Penang
Head towards Kota Baharu via the East-West Highway (highway 4). Perhaps
one of the most scenic routes found in the Peninsular, the East-West
Highway is one of the last frontiers to be conquered, so to speak. A
stronghold for the communists in the 60's and 70's where terrorist
activity was rampant in the area then. This may be the reason why going
through this part of Malaysia seems a little alien. There are neither
plantations nor housing development lining the highway. Zip back 60years
and this would probably have been the landscape for most parts of
Malaysia. Little trunk roads splitting dense forests, with no evidence
of civilisation far into the horizon. Look out for the 'Elephant
Crossing' Signs. Wild elephants forage at night and may cross the
highway to other feeding rounds within their roaming range. From Kota
Baharu, head South to the jetty location
From Johor or Singapore
Travel north on the North-South Highway and exit at Yong Peng. From Yong
Peng, take highway 1 to Labis and later onto Segamat. Segamat will lead
you to Highway 12 towards Muadzam Shan and Gambang and turn east all the
way to Kuantan. From Kuantan, head towards the Northeast on highway 3
(the coastal road) which will take you to Dungun and on to Kuala
Terengganu or Highway 14 which will take you direct to Kuala Terengganu.
By Bus
Arrival at Kuala Terengganu, will be at the Kuala Terengganu Tanjung Bus
Terminal and for Kota Bahru, at the Kota Bahru Langgar Bus Terminal, in
Jalan Padang Garong. Express coaches departs daily -
Kuala Lumpur - from Hentian Putra Station (7 hours) / Singapore - from
Singapore Kallang Bahru (9.5 hours) / Johor Bharu - frrom Larkin Bus
Terminal (9 hours) / Penang - from Komtar Bus Terminal (9 hours).
The journey include 2 rest stops or more along the journey for foods,
refreshments and toilet stops. The most comfortable coaches (VIP) have
24-32 seats in a 2-1 seating arrangement. The seats are spacious with
plenty of leg room. There are also 36-40 seats coaches 4 seats abreast
that would as well get you to Terengganu in best comfort. If you are
travelling overnight, bring some warn clothing (Jacket/ Sweater). It can
be quite cool. Soft or inflatable pillow can help you sleep more
comfortably. Most of the ticket counters only sell one way ticket. Night
coaches arrive Kuala Terengganu Tanjung Bus Terminal around 5.30am -
6.00am.
By Train
No Train service available to Kuala Terengganu but if passengers wish to
travel to the northern part of Terengganu, Keretapi Tanah Melayu train (KTM)
service is available from economy class to comfortable sleeping berth
from Kuala Lumpur or Johor Bahru/ Singapore to Tanah Merah or Wakaf
Bahru in the Kelantan region. The nearest railway station to Kuala
Terengganu, would be to get off at Krai or Tanah Merah, although most
travellers opt for Kota Bharu's better-serviced Wakaf Bahru station
instead.

Merang > Pulau Redang / Pulau
Lang Tengah / Pulau Bidong
In Merang Jetty, there many speedboats waiting to take guests to Pulau
Redang and Lang Tengah. Different speedboats are attached to different
resorts on the island. If you have booked with a resort on the island,
more than likely the appointed boat will already be there waiting for
you. Some boats belong to the resort and is therefore easy to pick out
with the resort's name clearly printed. But many are hired boats and
belong to private operators so just inform the boatman which resort you
are staying at, and he will direct you to the right boat.
Delay is a normal occurrence. There have been occasions when passengers
had to wait quite a while for other guests delayed enroute, so be
prepared! Pulau Redang is roughly 22km from the Merang Estuary and the
boat ride takes approximately 45mins.
Marang > Kapas / Gemia
Departure to these islands is from Marang Jetty. Return speedboat fare
to Kapas is about RM 25 with the boat trip taking about 15 minutes.
Gemia Island is only 800 meters off.
Marang is still pretty much a fishing village. Scattered around the
village, are a number of cheap chalets. You may have a bit of problem
leaving your car as there are few long-term car parks.
Dungun > Pulau Tenggol
You can get to Pulau Tenggol by speedboat from Kuala Dungun also known
as Dungun The trip from Kuala Dungun to the island will take about 45
minutes Dungun town is a little more than a village with wooden shops
lining its main road.
