Surrounded by a lush tropical
jungle, the Kenyir Lake is a popular and ideal retreat for nature
lovers, anglers, photo enthusiasts and fun seekers. Some of the
activities which could be carried out here are fishing, swimming,
canoeing, boating, camping and jungle trekking.
House boating
House boating is a unique way of experiencing the sights and places in
Kenyir It may not offer five star facilities, but it does furnish a
"thousand star" jungle atmosphere minus the need for strenuous trekking
and camping.
The standard version of the house boat is basically a passenger boat with
sleeping quarters built on top of what was formerly the roof. Cooking,
meals, bathing, washing and fishing are conducted downstairs while
sleeping, card games, chit-chatting and the like belong to the "living
room" upstairs.
As for fishing, different places have different fish and fishes such as
jelawat, temoleh, siakap, baung and of course toman are easily caught.
The advantage of fishing from a houseboat is that you can go and eat or
sleep anytime you want and continue the action later.
Fishing
It is a natural haven for freshwater fishes. In fact, the place is
naturally overflowing with fishes during the wet season. Overflowing
means you can literally catch the fishes with your bare hands! At
current, there are about 300 different species of freshwater fish found
at Lake Kenyir. The many protruding dead trees surrounding the lake
serves as the most ideal breeding spot for the fishes. The algae growing
on these trees and branches also serve as the major sustenance for the
fishes. Good fishing sports are at Cacing, Pertang, Leban, Petuang, Saok,
Sg. Terenggan
and many others.
Most of the fish here is game fish especially Toman (Snakehead), Baung
(Catfish), Lampan Sungai (Scwanenfeldiis Barb / Bardboides), Kelah
(Malaysian Mahseer), Sebarau (Carp), etc. The rainy season between
November to February, is especially favourable for easy fishing. Anglers
are advised to arrange for special fishing trips through chalet or
private boat operators for the best fishing location. Please be informed
that a fishing permit is required from the Wildlife Department.

Camping & Jungle Trekking
Kenyir Lake provides an ideal rendezvous with beautiful mother nature
and peaceful camp-sites are plentiful in and around the lake. Popular
camping spots are along the rivers of Saok, Lasir, Cacing, Chicir, Leban,
Pertang, Terenggan, Tembat and Pulau Pub (KOLA).
Treks & Climbs
Those seeking a more adventurous trekking experience can take up the
challenge of hiking up one of eight major peaks in the area, the highest
of which is Mount Chergau, which stands at more than 1,375m above sea
level.

But many are more keen on hiking up Mount Gagau, to claim the fame of
having standing in three different states at once - a possible feat as
the borders of Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan culminates at its peak.
Some of highlands designed for trekking and camping are Mount Gagau,
Mount Bongsu and Mount Padang. Just follow the marked trails or if you
interested in jungle trekking, It is advisable however to engage an
experienced nature guide before going on a trek as they will not only
ensure your safety, but will also impart knowledge on the flora and
fauna native to Lake Kenyir.

Water Sports
With a sprawling water catchment of some 38,000 hectares, Jet-skiing,
kayaking, canoeing, boating, rafting and shooting rapids are among the
many water sport activities available here.
