Sultan Abdul Samad Building
The stately historic building rich in character was designed by AC Norman and
built between 1894 and1897 to house the British administration. Formerly the
Secretariat building this Moorish inspired building with its shining copper
domes and high clock tower is a major landmark in the city. The Supreme Court
and the Textile Museum now occupy the building.
Dataran Merdeka
Dataran Merdeka, or Merdeka / Independence Square, facing the Sultan Abdul
Samad Building, has a 100m high flagpole that marks the spot where the Malayan
flag was hoisted on 31 August, 1957 signifying the birth of Independence of
the country. Ringed by fine old buildings, and the mock Tudor Royal Selangor
Club that was the social centre to KL�s high days of the 1890�s.
 China
Town
Endowed with a distinct character of its own, this colourful street of shops,
restaurants, and hawker stalls bustles with vitality. Flanking on both sides
of the street are shops selling anything from textiles to herbal medicines. It
has on the spot night market where shoppers can haggle for their bargains.
There are also numerous restaurants serving authentic regional Chinese
cuisine.

Market
Formerly a wet market, this heritage building houses shops offering such as
antique clocks, jewelry, gems, woodcarvings, batik, pewter ware, and more.
Jalan Masjid India
Our 'Little India', is another colourful street with street traders and shops
selling Indian brass, oil lamps, silver tableware, glass bangles, carpets and
gold jewelry.
Masjid Jamek
Situated at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers, it was built in
1909, making it the oldest mosque in the city. It features graceful arches and
domes reminiscent of the moorish era.
