Pantai Sabak �
Kampung Sabak - Pantai Sabak ... Where the
Japanese first invaded....
It was here on serene Pantai Sabak on the night
of Dec 8, 1941 that the Japanese landed to invade British Malaya.
 Two
days earlier the invaders had swam to the shore from the 63 vessels
anchored out at sea and took cover at the lush nipah bushes, awaiting the
attack signal. The defending British and Gurka troops fiercely resisted
the attack, which came exactly on 12.25am � only 90 minutes before the
Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour.
 The
only physical legacy of this bloody battle is a solitary pillbox, about a
few hundred metres from the water�s edge at the beach. All along the coast
up to Pantai Seri Tujuh, near the Kelantan- Thai border and the airport,
there is a total of 15 pillboxes. However, most of these pillboxes are
either left to the mercy of nature or otherwise occupied by unthinkable
guests like a mini poultry farm strewn with
rubbish and bushes.
 The bridge known as Jambatan Krai was used by the Japanese to cycle down
south and eventually occupying both Malaya and Singapore. There are also
some remnants of Japanese and British warplanes at Tanah Merah.
Though nothing can be done to stop the sea erosion, we hope that efforts
can be made to retain or develop this historical site.

Museum (Bank Kerapu)
The War Museum occupies the oldest brick building in Kelantan, dating back
to 1911. This historic building now houses memorabilia and documents
relating to Japanese occupation during World War II.
Opening hours: 8.30 am - 5.45 pm
daily except Fridays.

Pantai Salak is also a rendezvous for fishing boats, this beach boasts
fine golden sands fringed by coconut palms. Perfect to picnic and relax
while watching the return of the fishing boats. Enjoy the warm, clear
water.
