Selingan Island - Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre

DAY 1

Arrival Sandakan, transfer to jetty for 45 minutes boat ride by speedboat to Selingan Island (40km), fully equipped and licensed to carry 12 persons. Check into chalet. Free at leisure to explore island, swim and snorkel. After dinner, wait for signal from the Park Ranger before we proceed in small groups to watch Green Turtles lay eggs on the beach, transplanting of eggs to hatchery and release of baby turtle to the sea. Tourists are welcome to assist. This island has been a conservation park since 1977 and turtles have been nesting every night throughout the year. Overnight in twin sharing room (with common bath). DAY 2

Return to Sandakan and proceed to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Trek ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden plank walks to witness the feeding of the orang utans at 10.00am. After lunch a short tour of Sandakan town including a visit to the water village with tea break and the Australian War Memorial before we transfer to the airport for flight MH2065 at 5.20pm to Kota Kinabalu.  NOTE

*July & Aug are peak seasons - Those intending to visit at these months are advised to book early to avoid disappointment

*The lodge is simple accommodation, twin sharing. 

*Rooms with private wash room facilities are subject to availability. 

*Sabah Parks allow only camera of unaided flash to take photographs of turtles. 

*Video / Digital Video cameras are NOT ALLOWED. 

*Visitors are not permitted to walk around the island on their own

between 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.

Bring Along

Loose summer clothing, swimming wear, hat, sun-block lotion, insect repellent, flat walking shoes, 200 or 400 ASA films, and if staying overnight, bring torchlight 

& personal toiletries.

Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre

Meet at hotel in Sandakan or pick up at Sandakan airport & proceed to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Here 24km from Sandakan , young orphaned or captive apes are rehabilitated for life in the wild. At prescribed times, witness the feeding of the Orang Utans. Walk along the nature trail & enjoy the realm of tropical lowland jungle. 

Perhaps visit the nature education center to view the displays & exhibits.
Depart Sepilok Orang Utan Centre for lunch at local restaurant. After lunch proceed for the Sandakan city tour. Visit the revolving observation pavilion for a bird's view of Sandakan town. Stop at the Malay fishing village where the houses are built on stilts, visit the Chinese Buddhist temple which also offers a panoramic view of the Sandakan town and last but not least, stop at the Australian War Memorial.
Transfer to the airport for flight out or return to hotel in Sandakan.

Meet at hotel in Sandakan or pick up at Sandakan airport & proceed to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Experience a close encounter with the "Wildmen of Borneo", the Orang Utan. Witness the Orang Utan feeding by the rangers & walk along the 

plank walk in the realm of tropical lowland jungle. After lunch at a local restaurant, proceed for a boat cruise to the mouth of Kinabatangan River to search for wildlife 

and primates, most notably Proboscis Monkeys. Return to Sandakan.
