Pantai Cenang or Cenang Beach is located at the south-western tip of Pulau Langkawi
(Langkawi Island), about 18 kilometres from Kuah. A combination of relaxing beach ambiance
and modern comforts, the beach is lined with a number of resorts, luxury
class hotels, chalets and restaurants.

Stay-in Cenang
It is along Pantai Cenang, the southwestern beach strip that most of the
mid-range hotel pickings are to be found. The real discovery along this
coast is the small and intimate Casa Del Mar that oozes style and
ambience. As its name suggests, this is another chip off the old Spanish
hacienda block. But where others strain, this place succeeds
effortlessly. There are 24 rooms and four suites offering a sense of a
large home rather than a small hotel. All rooms have a sea view.
In-room Broadband is free while the lobby is wireless equipped. Take
your work with you if you must. Rooms have a cosy, bright and starched
appearance with a small divan for reading, a ceiling fan and a small
rug. The russet tones of the exterior come alive at night when the oil
lamps are lit. And for more indulgence theres a wine bar and a small
spa.

Just up the coast is long time stalwart, the
Pelangi Beach & Spa Resort,
spread out over 30 generous acres. Accommodation is in roomy dark-wood
traditional Malay kampung-style chalets with gleaming timber floors and
all modern conveniences. Red-tile roofs, bursts of crimson bougainvillea
and an expansive deep blue pool lend a great deal of colour to the
place. This is perhaps unsurprising as the word pelangi means rainbow
in Malay
Secluded yet convenient, within 5-minute drive from Pantai Cenang Beach
is the charming Bon Ton Restaurant & Resort is built on the grounds of a
100-year-old coconut plantation close to the main Pantai Cenang beach
strip.
It is an authentic boutique choice with just four vintage villas
(for two to three persons) fronting grass lawns and a Jacuzzi pool
Dining & Entertainment
There are so many places to eat at Pantai Cenang, from Chinese to Malay
to Thai influenced food. The Spice Market, an Asian and Western cuisine
outlet, offers a staggering number of goodies that are meticulously
executed and are masterpieces of clever design. Champor Champor, voted
as one of Malaysias best restaurants some time ago, offers a romantic
ambience. Champor Champor does a really good job of blending East with
West.
A concept that really fits its name as campur (champor is the old Malay
spelling) means mix. Set in a serene garden with an enchanting
atmosphere, it has good food and an equally good bar. A rather small
restaurant but big on price tags - main dishes go for around RM 20 per
portion - since the menu is as impressive as it is imaginative.
If you have spicy in mind, try Sun Bay Restaurant. Serving rich and
exquisite Thai fare fit for kings, a must try here is the steamboat
prepared from the freshest ingredients. Bon Ton at the Beach is the
place to go for Nyonya and Western fare that is refreshingly imaginative
yet uncompromising in taste. Secluded yet convenient, within 5-minute
drive from Pantai Cenang Beach is the quaint, old world, all-wood Chin
Chin Bar at the Bon Ton Resort. For Malaysian food theres Rasa at
Pantai Cenang.
For Seafood the Hot Wok Cafe is just one of the local favourites.
Located opposite the Semarak Beach Resort, it serves delicious Chinese
and Western food. Another restaurant to consider is the Semarak
Langkawi, a terrace restaurant - pleasant environment but a bit on the
expensive side.
Backofen, a German restaurant, located right next door to the Hot Wok
Cafe, has a signature bratwurst, a German sausage and does roaring
business at Christmas, a peak tourist season for German speakers. The
Beach Garden and Bistro is another eatery with German cuisine and a beer
garden, found right on the beach.
If you're looking for a sophisticated place, then head for Restoran
Pantai at the northern end of Pantai Cenang. This restaurant serves
Malay and Western food. Another interesting outlet is The Delta. It's
good value for money,
but does not serve alcohol.
Strategically located by the beach, the Music Room Discotheque changes
its decor every month to offer customers a different experience each
time
they visit. This is a great drinking spot. For a more laid back
atmosphere,
try the Reggae Bar where patrons can cool off and enjoy the great reggae
beat.
The resorts at Pantai Cenang also have restaurant outlets where diners
can go to for variety. The Pelangi Beach Resort's Chinese and Thai
restaurants serve well cooked and well presented dishes, cooked with
high quality ingredients. Diners can expect to pay in the region of RM50
per person for a meal.
