09:00am Depart Kuching by car for
holiday. The journey passing through green countryside scenery, padi
fields, rubber plantations, cocoa garden, pepper orchards, lush
jungle. Lunch at small town. After lunch we
proceed to the final stage of the journey, and arrive at the jetty.
(Approximately 4 hour drive).
We proceed by native longboats, and travel by boat further up the
river about 45 minutes. You will see Ibans on their way to the
farm in their dugout or longboats. Then you arrive at an Iban longhouse. On arrival at the longhouse,
we will be taken on a tour the longhouse, to meet the natives and their
families. Observe the natives performing their daily chores like
making baskets, mats, fishing nets or weaving Pua Kumbu, feeding
their livestock, washing clothes, fishing, or swimming in the river. Activities for the evening include dining in the longhouse
/ guesthouse. The Iban women will display their handicrafts for
sale. As a tourist, do not feel obliged to buy. Just smile and nod
your head showing "No, thank you" or if you wishin
Iban "Ngai, terima kasih". The Ibans will then sound their
gongs and perform their traditional war dance in full ceremonial
regalia. One is often invited to join in dont be shy it can
be fun even if you don't understand their language. Don't leave
without tasting their rice wine "Tuak". Overnight spent in
the guesthouse with the Ibans. (Basic Amenities) (L,D)
DAY
2
After breakfast, witness
cockfighting and blowpipe demonstration games before you go for a
jungle walk and then continue upstream by native longboat.
After negotiating more rapids and going through dense tropical
foliage, where the water is low you may participate with pushing and
lifting the longboat along the rapids which is really exciting. As
you venture further up the river, in exploration of
the river and its surroundings we make stops to collect jungle
products like bamboo shoots and fishing along the riverbank.
Enjoy a Bamboo picnic lunch on the riverbank. After lunch
visit another longhouse along the river and then return to first
longhouse/guesthouse for the night. By the end of this tour, you may
know a few native
words, and have had some lessons of wood carving, weaving and maybe some Iban
warrior tales or legends to bring back home!! (B,L,D)
