The
northeastern and eastern parts of Langkawi, with miles and miles of
mangrove rivers and tidal forests already dubbed the "Malaysian
Ha Long Bay" or "Langkawi's Gui Lin" are the most
serene, untouched and pristine areas of Langkawi. Thronged with
caves, some submerged during high tide, others only accessible
during highest tide, it offers the visitor spectacular views on
limestone outcrops, endemic plants - as the cycads seen below -
otters and dolphins. Only two human settlements are found in there,
one a charcoal camp operated by Thai people and a fishing village,
which is accessible by boat only during high tide, which kept it
safe from the main tourism stream.
