Bukit Keluang - Dendong Beach Park
Approximately 140km north of Kuala Terengganu and a few kilometres from Besut, lies Bukit Keluang, Also known as Dendong Beach Park, it the oldest and most visited picnic area in the State.

Back in the 19th Century, the place was a popular stopover for sea-merchants from Kelantan and Pahang to get their supply of foods and medicines. Legend has it that Bukit Keluang (Bat Hill) was so named for its large population of bats. Even now, though the bats mysteriously disappeared from the many caves in the hill, visitors keep coming to Bukit Keluang.

The beach is just behind a wooden walkway built through a rocky cave extended to the sea. Best of all, the caves at Bukit Keluang is not too difficult for novices who are seeking casual exploration. There are easy walkways to help you along so all you need is a flashlight, good shoes and an adventurous spirit. Of course, exploring without a guide is not advisable.

The combination of a white sandy beach and the bat-look-a-like granite hill gives Bukit Keluang a unique image � especially at dusk when there's a captivating sunset on the horizon.

Being only an hours drive away from Kota Baru, the Bukit Keluang Beach Resort located here provides a peaceful respite and a perfect stopover for tourists going to Perhentian Island as it is located not too far from Kuala Besut. With chalets blending with natural flora, guests can feel the tranquility and serenity of the place. Aside from its breathtaking view, it is also an ideal site for swimming, snorkelling and wind surfing.

Pantai Penarik
This stretch of straight and white sandy beach lined by swaying coconut trees is located some 50km to the north of Kuala Terengganu. Not far from the little fishing village of Penarik is Penarik Inn, a beachfront chalet within reach of its clean and sandy white beaches. The chalets, with a kampung style structure on stilts, are basic but comfortable and has clean, airy attached bathrooms. For about RM60 a night it's worth the tranquility the place offers.

Merang Beach
Merang is the jumping-off point to the magical island of Pulau Redang famed for its magnificent beaches and crystal-clear waters where in the shallows wild sea fish remarkably come to feed from hands.

The beach, although not the most famous in the east coast, its long sandy beach and stretches of tall coconut trees and sparkling crystal clear sea water is somehow making Pantai Merang a good stop to enjoy the sea breeze before proceeding to next destination.

Pantai Batu Rakit (Batu Rakit Beach)
Pantai Batu Rakit is on the unspoiled shores dotted with colourful fishing boats and surrounded by lush forest. On the distant horizon, over the South China Sea, can be seen the islands of Bidong and Redang and with the excellent visibility, seem much closer then they really are. Close to the Gem Beach Resort is the quaint fishing village of of Batu Rakit and a rocky outcrop surrounded by the sea.

This natural formation gives the village of Batu Rakit its name. Here it offers visitors opportunity of seeing the fishermen land their catch each day. Some are processed into salt fish or fish crackers that can be seen being sun dried close by. Local food are available at stalls by the road selling Terengganu's famous keropok lekor, otak-otak and Satar. Also available are seafood tempura (goreng celup tepung) at the Batu Rakit beach stalls. The stalls serves a variety of tempura such as fishes, crabs, squids, prawns, sting rays, bananas, kerepok etc. Batu Rakit also famous for fried koay teaw with squid and chicken, try the stall opposite the mosque along the main road.
