KUALA
GANDAH ELEPHANT SANCTUARY
understand the protected Asian elephants and the capture and
translocation program for its survival. Get up close and personal with
the centres trained elephants. Have fun feeding, grooming and bathing
one of the largest mammal species in Malaysia. For the adventurous,
experience the thrill of elephant riding through the sanctuarys grounds.
Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary was established in 1967 by the
Department of Wildlife and National Parks. The centre is a base for the
Elephant Relocation Team, which began the elephant translocation program
in 1974. The only one of its kind in Malaysia, it is dedicated in
relocating wild elephants from their habitat areas which are constantly
being encroached upon by plantations to other suitable and protected
habitats throughout peninsula Malaysia such as Taman Negara. Over the
past 25 years the centre has helped prevent further decline of the
elephant population by relocating more than 300 wild elephants

ITINERARY
The journey from Kuala Lumpur takes about an hour
through small towns and scenic countryside. On arrival at
Kuala Selangor, visit "Kota Melawati" formerly known as
"Fort Altinsburg", the execution block, royal mausoleum and
colonial buildings.
The hill offers a panoramic view Selangor coast and the
Malacca straits. A bird sanctuary park at the foot of Bukit
Melawati is an ideal place for bird-watchers to watch local
any migratory birds. Also found are silvered-leaf monkeys,
butterflies and etc.
We will then stop at a riverside seafood restaurant where
you will enjoy a seafood dinner at the riverside restaurant
while watching the a river view sunset.
We then proceed to Kampung Kuantan for the highlight of the
tour. We will be rowed upstream in a small unmotorised boat
(tongkang) in the quiet darkness to witness the blinking
trees. This scintillating display of fireflies portrays an
image of a flashing Christmas tree. The synchronized,
rhythmic flashing is produced by the thousands of fireflies
found in the mangrove swamp of Kampung Kuantan. The skilled
local oarsmen make this experience a memorable and an
