Gunung Keriang Recreation Park
This elephant shape mountain that seems to have emerged in the middle of a flat paddy land is a good place for activities such as climbing, trekking, caving and also for crystal hunting (famous of crystal deposits).

The history (legend) of Gunung Keriang is quite an interesting one.
It is reputed to be alive and rotates every year. The British colonialists called it Elephant Hill because it is shaped like a standing elephant

You can even bring your family along to enjoy the beautiful view. Just 10 minutes drive from downtown Alor Setar  it is very accessible. Gua Keriang, a cave located nearby is also worth checking out. Also located in the vicinity, is the Padi Museum.

Under the shadows of the towering Gunung Keriang, amidst a backdrop of hectares of paddy fields, stands today a museum devoted to rice. The museum, resembling bushels of harvested paddy stalks, consists of two main levels and a top portion accessible by a spiral staircase.

The several galleries provides a thorough explanation of anything involved with rice. Another fascinating aspect are the large panoramic murals, the result of painstaking work by 60 artists from North Korea.
Open daily from 10am to 6pm.

Bukit Pinang
Fruit lovers must make it a point to visit Bukit Pinang.
A bountiful orchard, Bukit Pinang is the place for those who love local fruits, especially those who cannot resist the 'durian'. Another interesting feature of Bukit Pinang is the fact that 'tuntong', a breed of river turtle, is found here. Folklore has it that eggs laid by these turtles were conducive to curing several diseases, hence in those days only the Royalty had
access to these eggs.
